Bringing Diverse Voices to a Global Audience: Award-Winning Films from the Micheaux Film Festival to Stream Exclusively on Roku

The Micheaux Film Festival is stepping up its game to elevate diverse storytelling, expanding its partnership with Roku, the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S.

Starting in November, Roku will feature a dedicated section showcasing a curated selection of award-winning short films, feature films, and documentaries from the 6th Annual Micheaux Film Festival. This exciting initiative allows audiences nationwide to enjoy a diverse range of independent stories directly from their Roku devices for a whole month.

This collaboration between the Micheaux Film Festival and Roku aims to enhance the festival's reach, giving a global audience access to bold, independent films that challenge traditional storytelling and amplify underrepresented voices. Roku's Head of Content, David Eilenberg, expressed the company's excitement about this partnership, stating, "Roku is proud to partner with The Micheaux Film Festival to amplify international voices and share rich cultural stories with our audience. Bringing Desde La Raiz and the festival's award-winning content to our platform further signals the high demand for multicultural titles."

The Micheaux Film Festival, known for celebrating diverse voices and groundbreaking cinematic visions, continues its mission to champion multicultural stories that resonate with audiences far beyond the festival circuit. The partnership with Roku enables filmmakers to reach a wider audience, extending the impact of their films beyond the festival’s screenings.

In addition to showcasing the festival's films, Roku will debut the highly anticipated docuseries Desde La Raiz. Directed and produced by Paulina Gamiz and Gus Sánchez, and executive produced by Ray Jimenez and Jaime Camil, the series dives into the cultural origins of iconic Mexican products like coffee, chile, corn, and mezcal. Actor Jaime Camil, who hosts the docuseries, describes it as "a love letter to México and some of the country's richest heritage and legendary commodities."

Courtney Branch, Founder and Head of Programming of The Micheaux Film Festival, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “This year’s festival is a celebration of creative exploration, dedicated to empowering filmmakers to cast their nets wider than ever before. Together with Roku, we strive to showcase their visionary projects on a global stage, ensuring that unique voices resonate far and wide."

This collaboration underscores the importance of multicultural storytelling in the entertainment landscape and reflects the growing demand for diverse, authentic content. By bringing festival winners to Roku's vast audience, the Micheaux Film Festival continues to break new ground in showcasing the works of visionary filmmakers.

Viewers can look forward to streaming Desde La Raiz alongside the award-winning films from The Micheaux Film Festival exclusively on Roku starting in November. This one-month event will offer a rare opportunity to experience compelling, untold stories that celebrate culture, heritage, and the power of independent cinema.
